Step 1

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Step 2

Chop bell pepper and grate cheese if not already grated.

Step 3

Boil macaroni in a pot until al dente or tender. Drain and set aside.

In a large saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Whisk in flour until smooth. Add the miso paste and break up with a cooking utensil. Gradually whisk in milk until thickened.

Step 5

Stir in grated fontina and parmesan cheese, chopped green bell peppers, salt, and pepper.

Step 6

Pour sauce over macaroni and stir to combine.

Step 7

Transfer macaroni mixture to a greased baking dish or 9-inch cast iron skillet. Top with Japanese panko bread crumbs, parmesan cheese, and toasted sesame seeds. Drizzle with sesame oil. Bake in a preheated oven for approximately 15 minutes or until golden brown and bubbly.

Step 8
